He was the son of the playwright edmond rostand, a member of the French academy. Attracted to science more than to literature, although endowed with an excellent pen, he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree and, having discovered a true passion for biology, worked during the First World War in the vincent professor's laboratory on the antithyphic vaccine. Having participated in the creation of the biology section at the Discovery Palace in 1936, he organized in the city of avray his own laboratory, where he was to devote himself to amphibians to numerous research, particularly in the field of parthenogenesis and gynogenesis, where he made important discoveries.
