Signed autograph letter from Édouard Hervé. Dated October 9, 1889, in Paris, addressed to a collaborator, written in black ink on a double sheet of watermarked laid paper, with the letterhead of the newspaper "Le soleil," which he founded. "My dear collaborator, The articles published in the 'Soleil' over the past few days have achieved the political result we were seeking. The committee of Twelve, through the voice of Mr. Paul de Cassagnac, has declared itself dissolved and has denied the rumor of negotiations with the government. After obtaining two such significant political results, it would be unfortunate, from every point of view, to continue a discussion that seems to me to be closed, or to launch epigrams against certain personalities on the right.

We would appear to be seeking satisfaction for particular grievances. We must immediately extinguish the fire. Later, if new facts arise, we will see what we need to do. I will give the same instructions to Mr. de Lavallée, and the editorial office.
