Autographed letter signed, (Lons-le-Saulnier, between 1895 and 1906). To Maurice Edmond Saillant, known as Curnonsky. 4 pages in-8, 218 x 144, on cream paper with the letterhead of the Chalet des Sapins near Lons-le-Saulnier (Jura). Superb autographed letter signed by Colette.

While on vacation in her in-laws' family home in Lons-le-Saulnier, young Colette praises the surrounding nature with all the gourmet and tender qualities she is known for: "My friend, if you could see, there are plenty of peaches and apples and grapevines with grapes, and I eat all of that. And then there is a little river that comes out from under a cave, and it is populated with salamanders, which are creatures made in the manner of lizards, gray on top and yellow on the belly. When I pull them out of the water, they sigh like people, it touches my heart immediately. We also fish for tadpoles, frogs, and sometimes we come across a certain toad - named Maurice by me, because of you - as big as a small dog, and whose appearance stops your heart in your stomach. She describes her husband with very flattering adjectives.

Perhaps a bit too much: "The sweet Master is always handsome, slender and proud, human perfection, as you know." Some crossed-out words and corrections. The rectos and versos are not written in the same direction.
