Philippe Aubernon was a member of the Masonic lodge of Antibes before the Revolution, municipal administrator of Antibes in 1791, and commissary of war for the Army of the Alps. In 1792, he became chief commissary-administrator of the armies.

He took part in the Genoa campaign with Masséna, then in the Italian campaign with Bonaparte until the Treaty of Campo Formio. Under the Empire, he was one of the 550 highest taxpayers in the Var. He served as chief commissary-administrator of the Corps of the Grande Armée, the Army of Dalmatia, the 11th Corps of the Grande Armée, the Army of Illyria, and as inspector for reviews of the First Military Division.
