Rare typed signed letter (TLS) from Viscount Takatoshi Kyogoku, a distinguished member of the Japanese aristocracy, addressed to the great pianist Alfred Cortot and dated August 23, 1947. This letter concerns the rebuilding of Japanese musical life after World War II, Cortot’s cultural role on the international stage, and an official request to the pianist to send a message to Japanese musicians and music lovers. Kyogoku also announces his return as correspondent and Japanese representative for the American music magazine Musical America, a world reference at the time. A document of great historical interest, combining cultural diplomacy, music history, Japan-Europe relations, and Cortot’s prestige.
