Gustave Doré - Autograph signed letter - Missed train and dinner at the Aquarium - 1878. Autograph signed letter by Gustave Doré, undated. Written in black ink on a double sheet of laid paper with a 3 mm mourning border. A charming and lively note addressed to a friend, in which Gustave Doré mentions a logistical mishap that prevented him from going where he intended, as well as a proposal for dinner “at the aquarium.”

“Dear friend, I did not go to?

As I thought, I missed the train if you want to be (crossed-out text) I am going to? I will be back at the hotel between 6:30 and 7 o’clock. If you want to be there, we will try to go to the aquarium for dinner.”
