Beautiful and long signed autograph letter to Mr. Beautiful signed autograph letter from Charles Émile Kopp, dated August 6, [1875] in Zurich, addressed to Mr. Written in blue ink on a double sheet of vellum paper. Important scientific and personal letter. Kopp first thanks his correspondent for the assistance provided in writing and sending a report intended for Lausanne, then discusses the heaviness of his work commitments: "My dear Mr. Risler, I received yesterday morning the package containing the Report and some of my scientific publications. I signed this Report and sent it the same day to Lausanne where Mr. the Syndic seems to be waiting for it with great impatience. I must now express my heartfelt thanks to you for your kindness in writing the Report; I certainly could not have written it more legibly, and I must admit that you have rendered me a real service by taking on this task." Kopp continues by confiding that he is overwhelmed with work and hopes to catch his breath soon. He then revisits a scientific point that has greatly impressed him: "I must admit that your conclusions on the influence of forests on soil moisture have greatly surprised me, as I had previously held a completely opposite opinion on this matter." Finally, he expresses the desire to see his correspondent again soon. A revealing letter reflecting both Swiss academic life and the scientific debates of the 19th century, blending administrative questions, naturalistic observations, and personal exchanges. His research focused notably on the analysis of mineral substances and applied chemistry. 13.4 x 21.4 cm. Condition: Traces of a tab on the back, otherwise in good condition.
