French politician, diplomat, and antique collector. Superb autograph letter signed by Pierre Louis Jean Casimir de Blacas d'Aulps, a leading diplomat, favorite of Louis XVIII, and a major figure of the Restoration and legitimist exile, addressed to Monsieur le Baron de Frénilly, Peer of France, dated November 29, 1834 in Prague. Written in brown ink on a double sheet of vellum paper, with its red wax seal. I had gone on a trip to Switzerland, Monsieur le Baron, to bring back my children, when the letter you did me the honor of writing to me on the 27th of last month came to find me in Prague. I have only been back here for a few days, and I hasten to express to you how much pleasure I had in receiving news from you; I hope that our correspondence will resume its course, and you could not doubt how much value I attach to it.

I am not surprised at the deep sorrow caused to you by the sad event involving poor Count de Montbel. The condition in which I saw him here and in Vienna was dreadful, and I cannot recall it without profound pain. He is much better now; everything seems to indicate that, thanks to the care of Dr. Gorgens, with whom it was necessary to place him, he will be restored to his friends and to himself, but I fear the moment when he will have full knowledge of everything he has done, of everything he has said; the grief he may then feel could once again be harmful to his health, and above all to his moral state.

I will not leave you unaware of what concerns him. Ostini will have sent you the small sum needed for the rent of this castle, which I would not have helped to ruin.

I shall have another occasion to speak to you about the furniture that is still in the warehouses. I am still awaiting news from Mr. De Kunsty regarding [Brunsée], although I do not believe one can ever settle matters properly with Mr. Count [Comte] de Wimpffen, that is to say, at the price and on the terms fixed by him himself when he dealt with us.

Since then, I have agreed to give him 250 m. [florins] in current coin, because I was told about a small estate belonging to Madame de Wimpffen and which was to be joined to [Brunsée], but I will most certainly go no further, and perhaps soon I will no longer agree to it, because of other arrangements. Please present my respects to Madame la Baronne de Frénilly and accept, Monsieur le Baron, the repeated assurance of my very sincere feelings and my highest consideration. is here, where she will spend the winter.
