Autographed letter signed by Duke Étienne-Charles de Damas-Crux, dated April 4, 1817, in Paris, is a rare document from the Restoration period. In April 1817, he was a Peer of France, Lieutenant General of the King’s armies, Grand Cross of Saint Louis, and First Gentleman of the Chamber of the Duke of Angoulême. The Duke of Damas-Crux was a prominent figure in the French military and political nobility. An officer since 1770, he participated in the American War of Independence (Eastern Indies theater). During a battle, his troops fled; he remained almost alone on the field and was captured. He founded the Legion of Damas during the emigration and was present at Quiberon in 1795. Under the Restoration, he became Lieutenant General of the King’s armies, Grand Cross of Saint Louis, and a Peer of France. He served as the First Gentleman of the Chamber of the Duke of Angoulême and as the King's commissioner in 1815.

He commanded several military divisions and remained active until 1832. He had direct ties to the royal family, including Marie Antoinette. The document is signed during the height of the Restoration period (1817). It is a rare autograph from a Peer of France and a close associate of the Duke of Angoulême.
