Achille Fould Autographed Letter Signed We Have Taken a Course that I Regret 1863
Signed autograph letter of 3 pages, "We made a decision that I regret," 1863. Signed autograph letter from Achille Fould, dated April 20, 1863, in Paris, written in ink on a double sheet of laid paper.
My dear former colleague,
I did not wait for Mr.
Mérimée to respond to your letter of the 18th and to tell you how much everything that has happened recently has concerned and saddened me. We could not resist our intimate obligations and we made a decision that I regret. The good side is yours, and I can only approve of your conduct. It is dignified and patriotic. How rare these sentiments are. I like to believe that whether you are a deputy or not, you will come to see us as in the past... I eagerly await your friend and will speak of you with great pleasure.
Believe, my dear former colleague, in my feelings of sincere esteem and friendship.
